Abstract

Seth Mnookin, award-winning journalist and best-selling author of The Panic Virus: The True Story Behind the Vaccine-Autism Controversy, discusses the media’s role in creating public health scares and the need to present parents with evidence-based data regarding vaccine safety. He also offers suggestions for how to confront outbreaks in the future. The Panic Virus won the National Association of Science Writers 2012 “Science in Society” Award.
