Abstract
Before suffering from a massive stroke, Jean Dominque Bauby was the editor of the French fashion magazine Elle. This 2007 film depicts his true story of locked-in syndrome, which left him completely physically paralyzed except for one eye, yet retaining normal mental functioning. Scientist Melody Jackson discusses the technologies she has developed to help patients with this severe neurological disorder to communicate with others.
