Abstract

The Act eases restrictions on interstate branch banking in Georgia in two phases over the next two years. Specifically, the Act amends and rewrites the former Georgia banking law, which heretofore restricted the establishment of branch banks in particular counties to very limited circumstances. The Act allows a bank to establish de novo branch banks on a limited basis between July 1, 1996 and June 30, 1998 and allows a bank to establish de novo branches with no limits after July 1, 1998.
