Abstract
DeJarnette set his policy preferences to verse, repeatedly publishing his doggerel in official reports to the Virginia legislatur. He was especially proud of the poem, "Mendel's Law: A Plea for a Better Race of Man," in which he railed against policies that allowed "the fools, the weaklings, and crazy [to] Keep breeding and breeding again."
